Michelle Morris

Michelle Morris died after falling down some stairs at a property in Ramskir View, Stainforth on 24 May 2020.

An open verdict was returned.

Three people, two men and a woman, were initially arrested on suspicion of murder but later released with no further action. The police said that they had insufficient evidence to charge anyone or take the case before the court.

Michelle Morris was found at the property injured after her friends called for an ambulance. She was then taken to hospital but died three days later on 27 May 2020.

The police were later called to the house in Ramskir View, Stainforth at 3pm on 24 May 2020, after which they questioned her friends and arrested them.

At her inquest it was heard that Michelle Morris had been at the property with the three other people enjoying a drink. She had arrived at 10am and had shortly after gone upstairs to have a lie down in a bedroom. It was heard that sometime later one of the friends had gone to rouse her after which she fell from the top of the stairs to the bottom.

An ambulance was called at 1pm and she was taken to Sheffield Northern General Hospital.

The police were not alerted to the situation until 3pm, the same day, after which they went to the property in Ramskir View. When they got there they saw that the home-owner had blood on their face, clothing and hands. They were then told of the claims that Michelle Morris had been pushed down the stairs.

The inquest later heard that there were allegations that one of the friends had been at the top of the stairs when she fell and that he had pushed her, even though no one saw it.

However, the friend denied having pushed her, stating that he had already been at the bottom of the stairs when she fell.

At the inquest, the Coroner noted that there were 'severe inconsistencies' with each of the friends live evidence.

They had all described Michelle Morris as having been drunk and 'wobbly on her feet' at the time.

The Coroner recorded an open conclusion, stating that they could not rule out either an accident or third party involvement.
